Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What sorts of issues can therapy help with?
A: Therapy is a useful outlet for anyone who is willing to take a deeper look at their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and life experiences. Therapy focuses on enhancing the coping skills that we have relied on our entire lives to get through difficult times. I believe that all humans are inherently resilient in unique ways. You may have more tools than you know! Therapy is about rediscovering them and improving upon them. Therapy has been proven beneficial for people struggling with a variety of mental health conditions or battling significant life stressors.
Q: Is therapy right for me?
A: There's only one way to find out! Give it a try... or several. Allow yourself to be open to new ideas and perspectives.
Q: How do I go about finding the right provider?
A: Not all therapists are the same, for a good reason! Each provider has a unique approach and different skillsets. It can be an arduous process searching for the right provider, which is why it is important for both the client and therapist to be clear about what they are able to offer. I recommend doing a lot of research on what therapists are available in your community and how their styles vary. It might take a couple tries to find the right person to match your needs and that is perfectly okay. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all.
Q: I am having a crisis, what should I do?
A: If you are in immediate danger to yourself or others you should contact 911 or visit your nearest emergency room. Finding an individual therapist can wait until after the imminent danger has subsided. If this is a non-life-threatening crisis, consider calling a local Hotline or Warmline to get you through the moment. If this is a non-urgent crisis, it may be the right time to start the reaching out to potential therapists.
